About This Data

Gender Parity in School Enrolment: Kerala vs India

The year-wise Gender Parity Index (GPI) data show that Kerala has consistently maintained strong gender balance in school enrolment, often performing above the national average. Between 2018–19 and 2021–22, Kerala’s GPI ranged from 1.12 to 1.08, compared to India’s 1.03 to 1.02, indicating a stronger female enrolment advantage in the state during this period.

From 2022–23 onwards, Kerala’s GPI gradually moved closer to perfect parity (1.03 to 1.00), while India showed a slight increase, reaching 1.10 in 2024–25. This trend suggests that while Kerala has stabilized at near-equal enrolment of boys and girls, the national average has recently shown a stronger female advantage.
Overall, the data reflect Kerala’s long-standing achievement in gender equality in education, with sustained parity and balanced participation over time.
